Kettlebell Training
Let’s
talk a little about kettlebell training. Kettlebells have been around
forever. They were invented in the 1700's in Russia and are becoming quite
the American craze as of late.
Fitness One was the first health club in this area to bring you Kettlebell classes. We were also the first to bring the area Kettlenetics, Spinning, Zumba and now TRX suspension training!
Kettlebell training will help you build lean muscle, shed fat at record rates and condition your whole body.
However, not practiced properly it can also cause many injuries. Also, if you solely use kettles, you are more likely to cause injury. Just like the one food diet (grapefruit diet) is not a cure all, kettles must be used with other forms of cross training for optimal results.
There are plenty of studies out there to show this and even master kettlebell instructors such as Mike Mahler will agree. So make sure you take these classes from a certified American Kettle Bell Club coach or Russian Kettle Bell club coach.
These coaches’ certifications can be verified by contacting the appropriate organizations. I personally have been certified through AKC and Valery Fedorenko. Valery Fedorenko is the only one who can certify an AKC coach.
So just because someone took a 8 hour workshop from another AKC coach does not make them certified in anything except for sitting in a chair at a workshop.
One could sit in on a 8 hour brain surgery workshop but believe me, you do not want that person to perform brain surgery. The problem is there are many of these individuals in the area who will then go on to teach improper and dangerous techniques leading to injuries. Eight hours or even 2 day workshops do not make a kettle bell coach. This takes months if not years of proper training and developing techniques.
Since kettlebell training is becoming so popular, clubs are eager to start their own classes by throwing under trained individuals out there to teach. Believe me I have seen a lot of them and even at the big mega gyms.
So, check with the AKC or RKC organizations listed, it's as easy as shooting them an e mail to ensure your coach is certified through them. Also, request a copy of their certification with the AKC seal and the signature of Valery Fedorenko.
Ok, I am off my soapbox now.
Fitness One offers kettlebell classes on a group level free with your gym membership or we also offer one on one training at a levels that range from moderate to just plain sick.
